Age of Empires is now in its 3rd version, and continues to be A GE. Indeed that is where the name came from. It has given rise to many eventful days of gaming and also enabled to founding of AGEFest, a regular piss-up which sometimes involves
Daniel Bloodworth's car being pelted with foodstuffs. At its most basic level it involves 2 or more teams of units attacking each other and sounding some taunts. Often this leads to Sameer's town being destroyed, or indeed to Krishan building vast amounts of ineffective units (see
130 Monks).
The world's most famous exponent of Age of Empires is the
Doughboys clan, who regularly spend hours in Ensemble Studios Online lobby trying to get a game going, then spending roughly 20 minutes in a game before either a) being hammered by superior opposition or b) someone dropping out of the game.
The current version of choice seems to be Age of Empires III, without the Warchiefs expansion pack because some PE clan members have failed to purchase it so far.
