130 MonksThis is a featured page

130 MonksAlternative pop band formed in 2002. Their first multi-platinum selling album 'Hub of Love' featured such top 10 hits as 'All I need is a teutonic knight' and 'paladin paladin' as well as the worldwide no.1 single 'Wololo'. After this whirlwind period the band took time out, only coming together for short tours during the Summer and occassional one off gigs at Christmas and Easter. Band members took this time to form side projects such as 'The Pro Ev Project' and 'Liberty XBox'. Then, last year after nearly 3 years of intermittant communication, the band headlined AGEfest 2005. Unfortunately due to the band struggling with alcoholic problems at this time, their performance was upstaged by a number of acts including The Pro Ev Project and Muffin Mini Vom, the Swedish experimental act. It was at this point the band decided it was time to put some more effort in and by AGEfest2006, they were ready to shine. Despite losing some members during the year, first the Fax due to 'work commitments' and Space Station who succumed to the pitfalls of excessive partying, the band still put on an excellent show. Whilst perhaps still not at their height, they performed a memorable gig, supported by the Pro Ev Project, and all whilst still trying to control their alcoholic demons. Their set included a prog rock version of their song 'Trebs away' which lasted so long it was cut short by the organisers. Rumours of a forthcoming second album 'Don't forget your network cable' abound, and the album 'live at Agefest' is soon to be realised. There is sure to be much more to come from 130 monks.

Since the release of 'Live at AGEfest' which reached no. 3 in the Christmas chart, the Monks have been quietly writing new material and are currently in the studio preparing what is one of the most hotly anticipated albums of the year. 'Don't forget your network cable (We're not wireless yet)' has been scheduled for an Easter Bank Holiday weekend release. There have been suggestions this date was chosen to liken the significance of this 'difficult' second album with Jesus' ascension to heaven. The band have yet to confirm this.
